Edition #41 | The Stillness Discipline | Monday, April 20, 2026
If you are afraid of silence. This is the problem. You can’t fill every gap with noise, every pause with a screen, every quiet moment with someone else's voice. Then wonder why you cannot hear your own.
Let's get into it.

1 VERSE
Psalm 46:10
"Be still, and know that I am God."
This is not a suggestion. It is a command. Be still. Not "be productive." Not "be busy for God." Be still. Most people treat prayer like a to-do list and worship like a performance. But God says the first step to knowing Him is stopping. Because, you simply cannot hear direction when you are making all the noise.
1 VOICE
John Maxwell
"A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way."
The Great John Maxwell has written over 100 books on leadership, but this quote captures the foundation of all of them. Knowing the way requires stillness. Going the way requires discipline. Showing the way requires presence. You cannot lead anyone to a place of clarity if you have never been still long enough to find it yourself.
1 CHALLENGE
The Stillness Discipline
At least one day a week hopefully more, take some time (10 - 15 minutes) without checking anything on your phone, sit in complete silence for ten minutes. No music. No reading. No prayer list. No agenda. Just sit and let the quiet exist without trying to fix it. The principle I am sharing here is the practice of doing nothing, on purpose. If you do meditation, sure okay do that. Be like a glass of muddy water, set yourself down, and as the sediment settles, the clarity rises. It also relaxes you, reduces your stress, leaving you in a good mood, and helps you to focus and make better decisions. Lots of benefits in intentionally being still.
P.S. - As your friend I certainly do not expect you to practice all of the challenges all of the time. However I do hope that they get you to think differently, to think better. Because even one of them practiced regularly, can improve your life for good. Let me know in the comments which challenge has helped you to think and live better. Have a great Monday and thank you for spending this time with me. I do this in love for you.
