Edition #028 | COURAGE | The First Five Rule | Wednesday, April 1, 2026

You have been sitting on that idea for weeks. You know exactly what you need to do. You have thought about it in the shower, during class, and right before you fall asleep. But every time you get close to starting, a voice in your head says not yet. Wait until you are ready. Wait until the conditions are right. Wait until you know more.

That voice is not protecting you. It is paralyzing you. And every day you listen to it the gap between where you are and where you want to be gets wider.

Here is the rule that kills the waiting.

Let's get into it. But 1st… Today, we launch mankind to the moon. Again!? 🤷🏻

1 VERSE

Isaiah 6:8

“Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, Whom shall I send? And who will go for us? And I said, Here am I. Send me!”

Isaiah did not ask for a detailed briefing. He did not request a timeline or a risk assessment. He heard the call and he responded with three words. Here am I. The first five minutes of any calling start with showing up before you feel qualified.

1 VOICE

Napoleon Hill

“Do not wait; the time will never be just right. Start where you stand, and work with whatever tools you may have at your command, and better tools will be found as you go along.”

Napoleon Hill spent twenty years interviewing the most successful people in America and distilling their habits into principles that anyone could follow. His book Think and Grow Rich has influenced more entrepreneurs, leaders, and builders than almost any other book in the last century.

That was written nearly a hundred years ago and it is still the most accurate advice a young person can hear today. The conditions will never be perfect. The tools will never be complete. The time will never feel right. Start anyway. Five minutes. Right now.

The First Five Rule

The First Five Rule says you do not need to feel ready. You do not need a plan. You do not need permission. You just need to commit to the first five minutes. Start the task for five minutes. That is it. If you want to quit after five minutes you can. But you will not quit. Because the hardest part of any courageous act is not the middle or the end. It is the first five minutes.

You know the thing you need to do. The project, the conversation, the application, the workout, the apology. Whatever you have been avoiding because the timing does not feel right. Set a timer for five minutes and begin. Not tomorrow. Not after school. Right now. When the timer goes off you can stop. I bet that you will not.

Keep it Real Deal.
