Edition #026 | SERVICE | The Value First Directive | Monday, March 30, 2026

You walk into a room and the first thought in your head is what can I get from this situation. How can this person help me. What is in it for me. You have been trained to think this way by every movie, every ad, and every social media algorithm that exists. Get more. Want more. Take more.

But the people who build real influence and real opportunity are running a completely different operating system. They walk into the same room and the first thought in their head is what can I give. And that single flip changes everything.

Here is the directive that rewires your default setting.

Let's get into it.

The Value First Directive

The Value First Directive is a decision rule. Before you ask for anything from anyone, you give something of value first. Before you ask for the job, you demonstrate the skill. Before you ask for the mentorship, you show up and add value to their work. Before you ask for the opportunity, you create proof that you deserve it.

Picture a farmer walking up to an empty field in the middle of winter holding a bag of seeds. The soil is cold. There is no guarantee of rain. There is no audience clapping. He plants anyway because he understands a law that most people ignore. The harvest always comes after the planting. Never before. The seasons matter and most of all, YOU Matter.

Most young people walk up to life with an empty hand expecting someone to fill it. The Value First Directive says you show up with a full hand and start giving before the soil even looks ready. Over time the return is so disproportionate to the effort that people will call you lucky. But you will know the truth. It was not luck. It was sequence.

Are you planting first or standing in the field waiting for a harvest you never planted?

1 Verse

Acts 20:35

“In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: It is more blessed to give than to receive.”

This is not a soft suggestion about being nice. It is a direct statement about how blessing works. The flow moves in one direction. Give first. The receiving takes care of itself.

Zig Ziglar

“You can have everything in life you want, if you will just help enough other people get what they want.”

Zig was one of the most influential motivational speakers in American history. He spent fifty years teaching salespeople, business owners, and leaders that success is not a solo achievement. It is a byproduct of how many other people you help succeed first. His message was so simple that people often missed how profound it actually is.

That is not a theory. That is a tested, proven, repeated law of human achievement. Help enough people get what they want and what you want shows up without you chasing it. The question is whether you have the patience to plant before you harvest.

1 CHALLENGE

The Value Deposit

Today identify one person in your life who is working toward something important. A classmate, a coworker, a friend, a family member. Before the day is over, do something specific to help them move forward. Share a resource. Make an introduction. Give your time. Offer your skill. The only rule is you cannot ask for anything in return. Make the deposit and walk away.

Keep it Real Deal.
