Edition #022 | COURAGE | The Friction Protocol | Tuesday, March 24, 2026

You wake up and the easy option is sitting right there. Snooze the alarm. Skip the workout. Stay quiet in the meeting. Scroll instead of study. You pick the smooth path because it feels safe. But smooth paths do not build anything worth having.

Everyone says they want courage. Almost nobody wants what it actually costs. The cost is friction. And friction is the one thing your brain is designed to avoid.

Here is the protocol that rewires the pattern.

Let's get into it.

1 PRINCIPLE

COURAGE

The Friction Protocol

The Friction Protocol is a daily practice. When you face a choice between comfortable and uncomfortable, you choose uncomfortable on purpose. Not recklessly. Strategically. You pick the harder conversation, the earlier alarm, the assignment you have been avoiding. You do the thing that creates resistance in your chest before you do anything else.

Picture a blacksmith shaping a blade. Every strike of the hammer sends sparks flying and the metal resists. But it is the repeated striking against resistance that turns a raw piece of iron into something sharp enough to cut through anything. Take away the friction and you are left with a lump of metal that cannot do any real work.

Your character works the same way. Every time you lean into resistance instead of away from it you are striking the blade. You are forging something that cannot be built in comfort.

What are you currently avoiding that you know would make you stronger if you faced it?

1 VERSE

Joshua 24:15

"But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord."

Joshua did not wait for the crowd to decide. He drew a line in the dirt and declared his position before anyone else moved. That took backbone. The Friction Protocol demands the same thing. You decide who you are before the comfortable option has time to talk you out of it.

1 VOICE

Ryan Holiday

"The impediment to action advances action. What stands in the way becomes the way."

Ryan Holiday spent years studying the ancient Stoic philosophers and translating their ideas into modern practice. His book The Obstacle Is the Way became a manual for athletes, military leaders, and entrepreneurs who understand that difficulty is not something to escape. It is something to use.

Read that twice. The very thing you want to avoid is the thing that builds you. That is not a motivational poster. That is a law of personal growth. The friction you feel when you face something hard is the raw material of every quality you wish you had.

1 CHALLENGE

The Friction First

Tomorrow morning before you check your phone or open any app, do the one task you have been putting off for the longest. The homework assignment. The difficult conversation. The workout you keep skipping. Whatever creates the most resistance in your gut, that is your first action of the day. Complete it before anything else.

Hit reply with the word DONE when you have completed your friction first task.

Keep it Real Deal.
